THE EXQUISITE BLOOMS OF THE ORCHID SHOW 2023 RETURN TO THE BRONX BOTANICAL GARDENS

February 20,2023 | By Sovereign Associates |

The famed Orchid Show is back at The New York Botanical Garden running Feb 18th to April 23rd, and will explore the healing power of the natural world through dynamic designs by landscape artist Lily Kwong.

The bountiful festival titled The Orchid Show: Natural Heritage will transform the garden's conservatory with immersive installations featuring thousands of orchids. Landscape artist Lily Kwong drew inspiration from classic paintings of Chinese mountainscapes passed down through her family from Shanghai, plus her own heritage, medicinal traditions and her artistic interpretation of nature as a healing force. She also incorporated concepts from Chinese garden design.

Using an extraordinary array of both iconic and rare orchids, she worked with NYBG's  horticulturists to create towering mountainous forms blending ecology, culture and fantasy. Here, in these ethereal, reverent landscapes, humanity and nature coexist peacefully.

This year's show focuses on flowers sourced from Asian countries, in addition to orchids from the Botanical Garden's own collections.

Established in 1891, The New York Botanical Garden is located on a 250-acre site that contains a landscape with over one million living plants; the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a greenhouse containing several habitats; and the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, which contains one of the world's largest collections of botany-related texts.

Since 1967, the garden has been listed as a National Historic Landmark, and several buildings have been designated as official New York City landmarks.

NYBG is also a major educational institution, teaching visitors about plant science, ecology, and healthful eating through NYBG's interactive programming. Nearly 90,000 of the annual visitors are children from underserved neighboring communities. An additional 3,000 are teachers from New York City's public school system participating in professional development programs that train them to teach science courses at all grade levels. NYBG operates one of the world's largest plant research and conservation programs.
