Swindler Cove at Sherman Creek Park

3703 Harlem River Dr.
New York, NY 10034

New York City has done a great job at creating parks for its residents, both human and furry. Most people go to the big parks like Central Park, Prospect Park, and Riverside Park. But throughout the city there are secret little parks that are some of the most beautiful spots in the city. In 2003, the New York Restoration Project turned what was once a dumb with garbage, rusted old cars, and sunken boats into a beautiful little park with walking paths, gardens, and a small beach.

This little spot on the Harlem River allows you to escape the craziness of the city and enjoy some time in nature. The park now includes waterfalls, ponds, turtles, ducks. Walking paths and more. There are paths leading to birdhouses and communal gardens. While small, the park offers so much to enjoy and provides an ethereal vibe for park-goers to enjoy.

Along with the stunning nature and the fun paths to follow, Swindler Cove is home to the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse. This boathouse is the home base for Row New York, a non-profit rowing program to get under served kids access to afterschool programs and athletic activities through rowing. This program was started to allow kids the ability to get academic or athletic scholarships at schools in Upper Manhattan.

This park and all that comes with it was put in to place to provide a sanctuary for the neighborhood and a place for people to escape the craziness of life. It is a beautiful park that has much more to offer than you’d expect. It is a hidden gem in our neighborhood that deserves to be explored by all.
