One of the many things that makes New York City such a special place, is that fact that all summer long there are street fairs around the city every weekend. They are in full swing now, it’s street fair season and I for one, am stoked! There is always something new that you haven’t seen before to experience, and the vibe is always fun, cheerful and laidback.
My favorite part of the fairs? The amazing mixture of foods. You can find Thai, Mexican, Indian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, Italian, crepes, corn, arepas, kabobs, burgers, cupcakes, classic funnel cake, the selection is endless, whatever you want, is most likely available!
My favorites change every year, and I know I’m going to get sticky. I prepare by bringing some extra water and something to wipe down my face & hands with, before going on to sample more delicious morsels. There is always wonderful ice cold, fresh lemonade to cleanse the palette & washed it all down with. It’s a real treat to sample so many cuisines at once and with such convenience, and we all know street food is so often the best!!
The fairs are more than just food havens though. They are a great place for browsing vendors stalls, and there is always something for the kids.
There is something for everyone as you walk the “closed to traffic “ streets and explore the fair. If you need some tube socks, a bonsai tree, a rug, jewelry, sunglasses, or simply just a book, you’re in luck. These fairs often have carnival games, balloon animals, magicians, and extraordinary musicians to entertain the young’uns for hours.
