Renting in NYC: Focus on Upper West Side

Josh Eisenstein

The Upper West Side of Manhattan. The name itself connotes class, excitement, and adventure. It is very well known that Manhattan is one of the cultural hubs of the world. But within this great city are little parts of town that make it an unforgettable place. The Upper West side offers so much to so many different people. There is a big single scene with great restaurants and bars, yet at the same time, it is very family friendly. Growing up on the west side gave me firsthand insight and perspective to what a great neighborhood I live in.

One of the really amazing things about the Upper West Side is the vast difference in scenery in very short distances. You can be on Broadway looking at all the lights and action and then walk two blocks and see the beautiful Hudson river or walk the other direction and see the magic of Central Park. The local parks provide the perfect outdoor adventure for children stuck in their apartments. A big sacrifice with living in the city, is giving up on having a front lawn for the kids to play in.

Riverside Park is great for people of all ages. There are many fun activities for children, including playgrounds, ice cream stands and sport courts. The famous Hippo Playground a great place to bring the kids! Some of the hippos have water shooting out of them which provides a nice defense to sweltering summer days. There is a gorgeous scenic waterfront walkway called Cherry Walk, it a perfect romantic environment for date night. Adults can use the walkway to run, jog and bike. For families with dogs there many places where your dog can roam freely. Kids can enjoy the freedom of running with their buddy and having the time of their lives. There are so many great outdoor activities for children.

Rainy or snowy days can be hard when the kids are stuck at home. Not to worry, the Childrens Museum of Manhattan is a great option for an indoor activity. Great exhibits such as, Lets dance, Dynamic h2o, PlayWorks and much more. It provides a great family day for the kids to enjoy.

One of the best parts of living on the West Side is the public transportation. It makes it so easy to get from place to place without too much hassle. Just hop on the 2 or 3 train and you will be in Midtown in minutes! Crosstown busses make it easy to commute to and from work.

With award winning restaurants, supermarkets, and nightlife the Upper West Side has it all. I highly recommend it for you and your family. Just send us an email and we will find you a great apartment in a fantastic neighborhood!
