Pisticci Full Circle Farm

May 9,2019 | By Sovereign Associates |

I’ve talked about Pisticci before and the amazing food they offer and I’ve mentioned their full circle program that includes their own farm (see post titled 'Pisticci'). However, today I am going to talk more in depth about their farm and full circle program. The Pisticci Full Circle Farm is located in Westchester, NY and run by Farmer Dave. I couldn’t tell you exactly where the farm is because it seems to be an internet ghost. However, that is no problem because they are kind enough to bring their amazing, fresh, tasty, produce down to us city folk.

The farm is there to provide Pisticci with fresh, local produce year-round in order to serve its customers the freshest meals. The produce comes to the restaurant the day it is harvested. Then all food waste is composted and taken back to the farm to be used as fertilizer for the next batch of goodies. While the farm is not open to the public, they are kind enough to hold a farmers market outside Pisticci once a week during the growing season. On Thursdays from 4-8, between May and October, Farmer Dave comes down with a small selection of the freshest produce. Depending on what stage of the growing season it is will influence what he brings.

I had the chance to meet Dave at one of his markets recently. He was hand-spraying all the zuicchinis and squash to make them clean and glow bright in the summer sun. They looked amazing! He mentioned that the produce can range from turnips and radishes earlier in the summer, to tomatoes, squash, and eggplants later in the season. Pisticci is leading an effort to decrease food waste and treat the environment the way it deserves. The Full Circle Farm and the people who run it are doing an amazing job at furthering the effort of smart business owning. What an amazing group of people!

Everyone, I hope, loves a high-quality, hearty, traditional Italian meal. If not, well, I guess that’s allowed. In fact, you’re probably a lot skinnier than the rest of us who love to gorge on fettuccine and pizza. Anyways, I’m off topic. I want to introduce you to one of the best and most authentic Italian restaurants on the Northern half of Manhattan, Pisticci. It’s located on La Salle between Claremont Ave. and Broadway. This restaurant is special though, because it is more than just good food. The owners, Michael and Vivian Forte, run a business that cares about serving quality food, but also cares about treating their employees as artists and giving them growth opportunity, and they care about maintaining a restaurant that meets environmentally friendly standards. Doing all of these things is not an easy task, but Michael and Vivian, who never owned a restaurant before Pisticci, have done it with grace and precision.

Pisticci, owns a farm North of New York City, where they grow their ingredients using compost from the restaurant. The food is then brought to the restaurant and served to customers within hours of being harvested, so you know you’re eating fresh ingredients that were grown without gas powered equipment. Pisticci became the first restaurant in NYC to be Carbon Neutral and they are a Green Certified restaurant. On top of this incredible effort, the Forte’s have maintained a restaurant which serves some of the best food in the area. Nothing about their job is easy, but they have built a restaurant that has led by example for others who hope to demonstrate the same beliefs.

The food is fresh, delicious, and authentic Italian. The restaurant provides customers with an amazing experience from the atmosphere, to the wonderful service, combined with a decadent meal. This restaurant is a true diamond hidden away in Harlem that should not be missed. No matter the occasion, a casual meal with a friend, a family dinner, a romantic rendezvous, or if you just want to treat yourself to a nice dinner out, Pisticci will fulfill your cravings and blow your mind.

August 9,2019 | By Sovereign Associates |

We’re back talking about Pisticci! Again. We know, but it’s just that good. We promise. For a brief refresher, Pisticci Full Circle Farm and restaurant work together to bring its customers the freshest produce and most delicious meals. In both the restaurant and farm, Pisticci looks for ways to reduce their environmental footprint and their efforts pay off. They are close to a zero waste restaurant, achieved by growing their produce sustainably in compost derived from the organic waste generated from Pisticci restaurant. In fact, Pisticci is the highest scoring green restaurant in NYC by the Green Restaurant Association and New York’s first carbon neutral restaurant. Yup, like I said- they’re just that good. As if that wasn’t enough, Pisiticci is announcing the grand opening of the Pisticci Farm Stall! That’s right, Pisticci will be hosting a farm stall outside the restaurant on Tuesday evenings from 4:30-unset now until October. Make a plan, write it down, tell a friend and most importantly, go!

The Pisticci restaurant is located on 125 La Salle St by Manhattan School of Music. Address as follows: 125 La Salle St, New York, NY 10027
