HARLEM WEEK FESTIVAL 2023

July 31,2023 | By Sovereign Associates |

HARLEM WEEK is an annual celebration of the best of Harlem, promoting its rich African-American, African, Caribbean, Hispanic, and European history, arts, culture, religion, business, entertainment, and sports. Whether you are here physically or anywhere around the world, you can experience the magic of Harlem and get into your Harlem State of Mind, at this year's festival.

The festival began in 1974 as Harlem Day, a one-day event of encouragement and fellowship created under the leadership of the Hon. Percy Sutton, Hon Basil Paterson, Ossie Davis, Tito Puente, Ella Fitzgerald, James Baldwin, Hal Jackson, Jackie Robinson, Max Roach, Joe Cuba, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and others. Given the massive success of the celebration, days were added to showcase the community's enormously rich economic, political, and cultural history. During the 49 years of Harlem Week, the event has grown from a one-day event to a month-long international festival and now, reimagined as a 10-day live and virtual event.

Since the first Harlem Day 49 years ago, the mission has been to embrace, inform, educate, give hope and direction to Harlem and the Harlems of the world. Harlem Week 2023 looks to uplift, direct and encourage you with a series of "Virtual & Live" events built around the theme, "Inspiration, Impact, Legacy."
