One of the many things that makes New York City such a special place are street fairs around the city every weekend. Despite having grown up in the city, I never get tired of a street fair. There is always something new that you haven’t seen before and the vibe is always so happy. If I turn a corner and am surprised with a street fair, I am like a 5-year-old on Halloween; I can’t contain my excitement.

My favorite part of the fairs is the food. You can find Thai, Mexican, Indian, crepes, corn, arepas, kabobs, burgers, cupcakes! Whatever you want, it’s there.  My favorites to buy include grilled corn on the cob and a kabob, followed by a Nutella and strawberry crepe. Now I know what you’re thinking, “tacos and crepes? EW! No thank you.” I promise I’m not crazy, because I cleanse my palate before the crepe with an ice cold, fresh, $1 lemonade. It’s amazing to get to try so many things at once and all at such convenience.

The fairs are more than just food though. They are a great place for kids with the abundance of fun. These fairs often have carnival games, balloon animal extraordinaires, magicians, and musicians to entertain the young ones for hours. There is something for everyone as you walk the streets and explore the fair. If you need some tube socks, a bonsai tree, a rug, or simply just a book, you’re in luck. If you’re lucky enough to stumble upon a fair when you turn a corner, make sure to stop by and explore. However, if you’re more of a planner, here is a website that tells you all of the street fairs happening around the city. Check it out and enjoy a crepe that won’t bust your wallet.
