ROARRR!! That means “oh my gosh this is amazing” in dino speak. Just kidding, that was weird. But that’s what you’ll be thinking when you eat a rib from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. It’ll be what you’re thinking when you eat anything from this bbq joint. The Dinosaur started in 1983 as a mobile food stand that served at festivals, fairs, and motorcycle shows. However, the owners wanted to settle down and create a brick and mortar store and opened a lunch/dinner restaurant in Syracuse, NY in 1988. After this, they expanded and opened nine other locations along the East Coast. That’s how we got our very own Dinosaur-Bar-B-Que in Harlem.
I remember when this place opened up years ago and my family tried it for the first time. I was a young’un back then and this is just the place for kids. Very kid friendly and not stuffy at all, which is good because its barbeque so I’d hope it’s pretty relaxed. Since then, I’ve grown up a bit (thankfully, my mom was worried) and had the chance to try this again with a less picky and more adult palate. The ribs here are insane. I don’t know what they put in their sauce or how they get the meet so tender that it falls of the bone, but it’s amazing. Also, a fried green tomato is not something you can find anywhere, but when you get one here you’ll be wishing they sold them on every street corner.
The vibe of the place is also amazing. Staff is friendly and the décor fits the food. It has a rustic, cabin-y vibe that also feels like you’re in the South, but not too deep South. Overall, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is not a place to miss. They’ll have you coming back religiously. Let me know your favorite barbeque dish! Mine has got to be a good old-fashioned pork rib.
