The Greene Science Center isn't just big, but eco-friendly as well, it is built for sustainability with its high tech and innovative designs. Cutting down on emissions with solar panels with their innovative roofing material, it protects the building from Manhattan’s natural island heat. Greene Science Center placed sensors that measure the amount of sunlight, manages the amount of shade the building received to control the temperature of the building. The Greene Science Center high tech building specs are indeed impressive, but they also house the Columbia’s Zuckerman Institute conducts valuable research. Their goal is to investigate the human brain and have made some outstanding discoveries. For exaple, Sarah Wooley investigated songbirds, which helped her to understand how the brain perceives vocalizations, the process of producing sounds with the voice, and how different vocalizations affect the way young will speak and interpret language. Even though the Greene Science Center has many scholars from different backgrounds researching a multitude of varied research, it isn’t a place just for people that hold a Ph.D.; they also have many public programs open all year round for kids of all ages.

From the building's construction to the people who work there, the Greene Science Center is highly educational, however, there is a rising star that doesn’t have much to do with science. Dear Mama Coffee serves as a coffee shop, restaurant, and wine bar. Open from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon, with a full menu for lunch, breakfast and dinner options. So the next time you are on Broadway near 129th check out the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, it doesn’t matter the time it is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!
